Lets get to know each other a little better, shall we.

Of course this blog is going to be full of wisdom and priceless insights. But not today.

Today I thought I could start with telling you 99 random facts about myself, facts that you can really do without.

1. I am a true Pisces: an escapist, too idealistic, no sense of reality or time, I’m weak-willed and easily led.
2. But I’m also very creative, compassionate and intuitive.  
3. I interrupt people while their talking. Not because I don’t want to hear your story, but out of enthusiasm (or sometimes I am just impatient if you don’t get to the point). I’m surprised I still have friends.
4. I have a thing with hummingbirds. I believe they come to visit me with a message.
5. I was born and raised in the Netherlands and not a day goes by that I feel guilty for living so far away from my family.
6. Actually, I feel guilty about almost anything. I think it is safe to say that I might need therapy for this. But I would probably feel guilty about spending the money and time on myself.
   
7. I have seen Grease over 20 times. The Sound of Music may be even more.
8. How gay am I?
9. I collect hobnail milk glass.
10. I eat dark chocolate every day. And I don’t mean just one piece.
11. Most of my wardrobe is black. Go figure.
12. I am slightly OCD. I re-adjust my yoga mat about 10 times per class. It needs to be perfectly straight and aligned with the lines on the floor, or I will not be able to concentrate.
13. I’m working on being less opinionated and judgmental.
14. I am an over-thinker and under-achiever.
15. In my teenage years I had braces and cosmetic ear surgery. Sometimes I wonder what I would look like if I not done either one (and if anybody would have married me with my teeth and ears sticking out).
16. When I was pregnant, I prayed every day that my child would have ‘normal’ flat ears.
17. These days I just pray for God to give our family another child. We will worry about the ears later.
18. I used to party hard.
19. I am married to the love of my life. He is such a wonderful man and I can cry just thinking of how blessed I am.
20. My inner world is bigger than my outer world. My husband says I live in lala-land. I think he’s jealous.
21. I love ironing.
22. I have a fear of heights and it seems to get worse as I get older.
23. In the millennium year I took a sabbatical and traveled too Asia for 5 months, by myself, with a back pack. It was life altering.
24. One of my biggest wishes is for my family to move to the States so we can all be together again.  If that is logistically too complicated, I wish for a house in Holland to spend the winters there.
25. I am envious of women like Diablo Cody, who wrote the script for Juno. Similar movies and books live in my head too, but I think we’ve already established under #1  # 13 and #19 that I will probably never actually write any scripts at all (or just forget to send them in).
26. I am a step mother and we share co-parenting. I like being a step mother, but I sometimes have trouble with the co-parenting.
27. I said ‘sometimes’ to be polite.
28. We have a dog, a cat and two guinea pigs. I secretly love the cat more than the dog. I wonder if that’s why God only gave me one child.
29. I am information obsessed. Books, the news, magazines, facebook status updates, I just can’t stand the idea of not possibly not knowing some vital information.
30. I cry a lot. I’m very emotional. It runs in the family, but somehow my sister doesn’t have this curse.
31. I am the ultimate procrastinator if you’ve ever met one. I will wait until the absolute very last moment with everything.
32. Consequently I often drive around with the gas light in my car flickering. And I will still push it for another 20 miles. Also, I usually don’t have any cash in my wallet because a stop at the ATM is overdue.
33. My daughter goes to bed too late and watches too much TV just because I can’t turn the computer off.
34. I make up for it by reading her books and laying with her until she falls asleep, while cuddling and giggling.
35. I don’t always brush my teeth in the morning.
36. I love knitting. I never finish anything though.
37. I love drinks with a creamy consistency. Frozen coffee's from the Starbucks, smoothies, Kahlua and the like.
38. I never had a fear of flying but on my last flight I decided that I will never again board a plane without anti-anxiety pills of some sort.
39. I dream of taking at least one year off to travel the world with my husband and children and expose them to many other cultures.
40. I often wonder about the purpose of my life and fear time is just ticking by without me ever discovering my true passion and talent.
41. I am not one of those moms who “plays” or likes play grounds. I’m just not very playful.
42. I do love crafting with my daughter, or reading books together. Unfortunately she would prefer me being better at # 41.
43. Sometimes I worry if my daughter will remember me as being “no fun”.
44. I need to work on my fun-factor.
45. I am fun when I drink.
46. I don’t have the patience to talk on the phone.
47. I don’t play musical instruments and I don't desire to.
48. I have a scuba diving diploma and did many dives until I got fearful. Fear seems to be the theme running through this list. Fear and guilt.
49. I love combing the beach looking for sea glass, angel shells or drift wood with my daughter.
50. I pains me every time my daughter says it’s more fun at other people’s houses because her friends all have siblings and she is all alone at our house.
51. The two thing I loved most about America when I just moved here, were potlucks and the fact that God is a normal part of daily life and conversations. In Holland
    my friends still role their eyes when I mention that I believe in a higher power.
52. I refer to God as her and she.
53. I am a sucker for those midnight infomercials and would probably buy everything if my credit card was right there on my night stand. I don't actually get out of bed to look for the card and order something at 3 am. I have in the past though. 
54. I never really cared for the holidays, but now that I live in the USA, I really really don’t like Christmas. It is just too commercial.
55. For that same reason I don’t like Easter. Or Valentine.
56. I’m still undecided about Halloween.
57. I think New Years Eve is overrated too.
58. I do love New Years day and the promise of new beginnings. I have the same feeling when I buy a new wallet, handbag or notebook.
59. If I had a million dollars, I would spoil the crap out of our families before buying anything for myself. My husband says I need to say “when I have a million”.
60. I don’t have a middle name.
61. I don’t like my husband’s first name, Norman. It wasn’t a deal breaker though.
62. I wish my parents were hippies and had named me Rainbow or Butterfly or Dream. ‘Jessica’ is such a plain name, although my mother tells me it was really original in Holland when I was born in 1971.
63. I wished I liked poetry, because it’s sound like such an artistic and interesting thing to say. “What are your hobbies?” “Oh, I ‘m really into poetry”. The truth is, I only like Jack Prelutzsky rhymes.
64. I have never lived in a home that is a complete and utter reflection of my taste, spirit and personality. With the risk of sounding too materialistic, that is one of my biggest dreams.
65. I don’t usually wear socks. Not even in winter.
66. I lost a baby boy at 23 weeks pregnancy and I had 3 miscarriages since. I was mad at god for a long time.
67. I still talk to my angel boy several nights a week.
68. My husband and I differ 13 years in age. My husband and my mother only differ 6 years from each other. I try not to think about the last fact.
69. I am left handed. Left handed people are supposedly more creative.
70. I raise my daughter bi-lingual.
71. I love my daughter so much, it hurts.
72. If we travel for vacation, it usually is to Holland. If I travel elsewhere, I feel guilty for not going to visit my family. I think we’ve already established my issues with guilt.
73. I am intrigued with acupuncture and Chinese Medicine.
74. I am considering studying acupuncture. I would specialize in facial acupuncture so I could work on my wrinkles without having to settle for Botox.
75. I never had Botox before. I don't think I will.
76. I love massages but I have trouble spending money on myself. 
77. I used to be a city girl. Now I live on an island.
78. I love my island. It gives me a sense of safety and community I have never experienced before  and I swear I will die a more complete person for having lived here.
79. However, I also hate my island. It is so limited, isolated and small. Plus: the boat schedule seems to get in the way with my spontaneity.
80. One of my biggest wishes is for my sister to feel healthy, strong, vital and energized so she can run, bike, dance and roller skate. She has Elher Danlos syndrome. I feel guilty that she is the one of us two who is disabled. Yes, I just said 'guilty' again...
81. I can’t stand chaos and mess. I can be pretty anal about tidying up.  
    
82. I am an organic snob. I won't eat it if it’s not organic.
83. I don’t eat chicken because supposedly it’s not god for my blood type. I am B+.
84. I have three tattoo’s, all done on an impulse. Two of them I regret, but not enough to have them removed.
85. Once a year I do the master cleanse. Water, lemon, maple syrup and cayenne pepper. The longest I ever stuck with it was 9 days.
86. I used to do colonics too, but over the years I have developed an aversion towards that tube up my butt.
87. I have never loved my hair. I don’t understand why hair extensions are an excepted part of black culture, but totally trashy for white women.
88. I think I should have been born black, and not only because of the hair extensions.
89. I have zero patience for whining of others.
90. I learned that “comparing yourself to others is the source of all unhappiness”.
91. When I was sixteen I got fired from my Saturday job for stealing money. It was a profound turning point in my life.
92. I come from a very small family. I have my parents and one sister whom I adore. I wish we had many more siblings because there is enough love going around in our family.
93. My parents are married 40 years in November 2009 and they’re still young!
94. I wish I still had grand parents.
95. I cry when I hear “I will always love you” from Dolly Parton. It makes me think of my first love and what a bitch I was when I decided to leave him after 8 years.
96. My favorite song is “The look of love” because that’s how my husband looks at me. And I still have that look of love for him too.
97. I don’t really like Oreo’s but I will eat them if I can’t find anything better in the pantry at midnight.
98. I am really resourceful if I say so myself.
99. I despise Fox News Channel.
100. I am still too self conscious about sharing this blog with my friends.
